In celebration of Black History Month, Wirtz Elementary School opened its doors to an inspiring hip-hop exhibition that had parents and students on their feet. The packed multipurpose room buzzed with excitement as attendees engaged in an interactive experience that highlighted the history, styles, and cultural impact of hip-hop.
The event was led by three professional dancers from UniverSOUL Hip Hop, an organization committed to cultivating community, intergenerational wellness, and wonder through transformative, soul-centered dance performances and education. Through electrifying performances and heavy audience participation, students and parents had the chance to immerse themselves in the energy and artistry of hip-hop dance.

UniverSOUL Hip Hop provided a brief lesson in the history of this dance form spotlighting the huge influence Los Angeles has played in the genre’s growth and global influence. As the city became a hub for hip-hop in the 1980s and 1990s, contributing to its evolution through dance, music, and creative expression.
